Day 165

Jesus,

We praise You for being REMARKABLE. That You would trade, even temporarily, the glory of Your heavenly home for the wickedness of Your earthly home… You are truly sacrificial in Your love. And Holy Spirit, You dwell in us, stay with us despite all our sin, and carry us out of it. THANK YOU for never leaving us alone. 

Father, have mercy on me—I’m a sinner. There is not even one that does good. Our sins are many—we fall short of Your perfect standard in thought, word, action, and inaction. We need Your forgiveness and covering, and we thank You for providing that for us in Christ. 

You have been so very merciful, gracious, and kind. Open our eyes to Your kindness in all Your answers to all our prayers. Whether it’s a yes, no, or a not yet, we know Your answer is Your kindest answer and is part of the best possible outcome on an eternal scale. Help up to trust You and praise You even when You do things we disagree with… and bring our spirits into alignment with Yours. 

We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way. 

We love You too. Amen.

Day 164

Father, 

We praise You for the way You always fulfill Your promises! Thank You for coming to dwell here on Earth with us. You showed up and turned everything upside down in the best way possible—healing the blind, feeding the hungry, freeing the captives, and raising the dead, including us. You have brought our dead hearts to life by Your presence, because You are life itself! 

How quickly we forget our need for You and we lean into autonomy and self-reliance. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We are blind, hungry, captive, and dead without You. You give us eyes to see, You feed us and free us, and we need You in every moment. 

When we look to ourselves, fix our eyes on You. When we look to other things to sustain us, draw us back to Your Word and Your presence. When we’re in bondage to the sin we hate and the sin that we love, give us Your strength to walk in freedom and give us Your heart to love the right things and hate our sin. May Your goodness and glory be so obvious and evident in our lives that others are drawn to YOU because of it!

We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.

Day 163

Father, 

We praise You for Your establishing power and Your strength. You are the foundation on which You build everything good and lasting in our lives. Everything built by human hands will be torn down, including the temple, but Your Spirit has never left us and never will. You are always with us! Thank You for that!

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We repent of trying to establish ourselves apart from Your presence and strength. It’s a fool’s errand.

Sometimes we forget what an honor and privilege it is that You have made Your home in us. We take it for granted, but we don’t want to, God. We know we’re undeserving. But when we stop to remember it, we’re in awe of what it means to be Your home. Would You grow in us gratitude for the nearness we have in You? You are not distant and it’s our greatest blessing. Remind us when we forget. 

We surrender our lives and our bodies to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.

Day 162

Jehovah Jireh,

You are the LORD who Provides! And we praise You for it! You are so good to finish what You start, and You provide what we don’t even know we need. Not only do You provide for us daily, but You provided for us eternally through the finished work of Your Son, who paid our sin debt. Because of His work, we can live with You forever! Thank You for all the things You accomplished on Mount Moriah—from Abraham to Solomon to Jesus—and for the ways they advance Your perfect plan. 

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We fail to recognize what it means that our bodies are Your temple. You dwell within us. We repent of treating our bodies as insignificant OR as ultimate. YOU are the One who is ultimate, and you have made our bodies Your home.

Would You remind us that Your Spirit lives inside us? We are made in Your image and we demonstrate Your presence here on earth. And we are fully dependant on You for that. We don’t want to be like King Hiram who recognized You as great but didn’t surrender to You. Help us see Your greatness. Help us demonstrate Your goodness.

We acknowledge You as Lord and Master over our entire lives and because we trust You, we joyfully surrender every aspect of our lives to Your Lordship.

We love You too. Amen.

Day 161

Father, 

We praise You for Your intimate care for those who are far from You. We were those people! We were far from You but You pursued us! Thank You for pursuing Your enemies and for being a God who mourns over the fall of anyone! You show us what love and compassion truly look like, and we praise You for it! 

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We’ve rejoiced when our enemies falling and our hearts have been glad when someone who opposes us stumbles. We are ruled by self-interest and self-protection, and we repent. 

Would You give us Your eyes to view people the way You do? Help us grieve when we see them walking the path of destruction. Give us compassion for them that reaches out and calls them to turn to You!

Day 160

Father, 

We praise You for identifying with the poor. You lead the way for us in the fullness of Your generosity, and You inspire us to be cheerful givers. Because You’ve given us so much to share, we can demonstrate Your blessings and generosity to those in need!

We don’t always share though, God. Sometimes we’re fearful and don’t trust You to provide. We repent of our greed and of the fear and mistrust that fuels it. We repent of being quarrelsome and quick to anger. Remind us that You can be trusted and that You govern hearts. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. 

Would You steer us toward hope and plant our feet firmly on YOU as our foundation so that fear doesn’t inform our decisions? Remind us that we’re eternally safe and permanently secure in You. Give us your peace when we’re filled with unrighteous anger. Hold our tongues when we want to pick a fight. We can’t do it, God, but Your Spirit in us can. 

We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every thought, every word, every fear, every need—we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.

Day 159

Father, 

We praise You for Your divine involvement. Your sovereignty is absolute, and You are active in everything. That is SUCH a comfort. It’s terrifying to think that anything is beyond Your control or Your attention. We trust You in Your sovereignty and we praise You for working out Your perfect plan to bring about the restoration of all the things we’ve broken. 

We confess that we break LOTS of things, God. We’ve been prideful and made assumptions, we’ve been impatient and entitled, and we certainly haven’t always practiced self-control or speech-control. We repent of our sinful thoughts, words, and actions, and we turn to You. Your ways are better. Have mercy on me, a sinner. 

Humble us, Father. Remind us that we can plan our steps, vision board our future, and try to exert control over the outcome, but You are sovereign and wise and loving. Only You know the future. And Your plan is not only best, it is good. So open our hands, God. And soften our hearts to trust You more. When we resist You, show us how Your plans are better than ours. 

We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every plan we make, every moment of our day, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.

Father, 

We love your nearness! We need it and we praise You for it! Thank You for the privilege of being Your kids and for wanting to listen to us. Your heart is so kind! 

God, we have walked in foolishness at times, and we repent. We have been hasty and short-tempered, we have sought out the ways that seem right in our eyes, and we confess that we have missed the way. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We turn FROM our sins TO You and ask You to make our hearts clean.

God, we have no one to ask for wisdom except You. You are the only source. So we ask You for it. Would You grow us wisdom and draw us even nearer to You today? Grow us in patience. Help us to measure our actions and weigh our words before we move and speak. We want to honor You.

Day 157

Father, 

We praise You for the sacrificial death of Your Son that covers even the selfish motives behind our so-called good deeds. Because You have covered our sins, You can see us as righteous and delight in us as Your kids! And in return, we can delight in You! And that is such a gift!

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. Our hearts have been crooked and our lips have lied, but in Your complete rescue of us, we know that you aren’t giving up on us and we’re so grateful, God, because we can’t clean ourselves up. 

Would You equip us and strengthen us to act faithfully and honor You? Please shape our hearts to look like Yours and turn our thoughts and eyes to You.

Father, 

We praise You for delighting in wisdom and delighting in us. It’s unbelievable and beautiful to think that You rejoice over us. The thought of You being giddy at Your Creation is so remarkable. Thank You for loving us so perfectly despite all our imperfection.

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and we turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. Whether we’re seduced into sin by others or we outright choose it ourselves, we confess our blatant and offensive rebellion against You. We have rejected wisdom. We have sought out folly. We have planned sin. We have been seduced by the adultress and we have been the adultress. We have broken Your laws and Your heart. And we repent. 

Would You rid us of pride, arrogance, evil, and perverted speech? Would You grow us in counsel, wisdom, insight, strength, leadership, justice, love, enduring wealth, and righteousness? It’s only by Your work in our lives that we can hate evil and love what is good. We can’t grow unless You grow us. Work in us, Holy Spirit, we beg You! Produce Your fruit in us!
