Monday Jul 13, 2020
Father,
You are our peace! And we praise You for that! May You be increasing in our lives all the time, and may we be decreasing—that’s the path to peace and joy, because that’s the path to more of YOU!
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We turn FROM our sins TO You and ask You to make our hearts clean. We have detested justice. We’ve cried peace when there is no peace. We’ve been greedy and our greed has led to all kinds of sin and oppression. We’ve ignored the cries of the needy. And we’ve relied on our freedom and wealth as our safety net, imagining we’re too strong to be toppled, instead of looking to YOU. And we repent.
Where Your Spirit has brought conviction of our sins, humble us to receive it and repent. Show us how to specifically respond to anything You’ve shown us. Give us hearts that want to learn and grow and change. We don’t want to be like Jerusalem and Samaria and their people, who didn’t listen to repeated warnings from Your prophets. Open our ears, God.
We surrender our lives and our hearts and our ears to You—and we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Father,
As the prophet Isaiah said, “I will give thanks to you, O Lord, for though You were angry with me,
Your anger turned away, that You might comfort me.” Your anger is real, God, and it’s righteous and it’s terrifying. But You took Your wrath upon Yourself and drew near to comfort us. Isaiah also said, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and I will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”
Father, we praise You for the salvation You’ve granted us—complete and total rescue. We don’t always trust You, and sometimes we lean into fear. We repent of our hard hearts and our foolish and sinful thoughts. Would You be our strength today? Be our song, God. Give us a joy we can only recognize as You and Your nearness. You have BECOME our salvation. You haven’t just given it to us—You ARE it.
Because of Your great anger-absorbing, comfort-inducing love, we joyfully surrender our lives to You, Lord. Be glorified in us today.
We love You too. Amen.

Father,
You know our pain, You have felt our ache, and You entered in. We praise You for Your compassion and patience with us. It’s scandalous that a Holy God would treat us the way You do. You pour out kindness on us in ways we could never earn or repay. Your heart is SO KIND.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. A lot of these woes sound familiar, God. Sometimes it feels like Amos is talking directly to US. We recognize ourselves in these warnings, because we’ve been concerned for no one but ourselves, we’ve taken credit for our gains, and we’ve robbed You of the praise You deserve.
And at the same time, we want to be spared the kind of disaster that often prompts us to repent. So we’re laying our hearts out before You, God. You can fix them. We can’t. And we want You to. Please do what only You can do. Uproot the lies we’ve believed and clung to and plant the truth instead.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Father,
We praise You for Your heart for repentance and restoration. When it comes to Your kids, punishment is never the goal of Your judgment on our sins. Jesus has taken all the punishment for all our sins on the cross. Yet You are still so kind to call us to repentance, to never leave us to wander off into sin and destruction. Thank You for that!
Have mercy on me, a sinner. Like Judah, we’ve rejected You. Like Israel, we’ve forgotten Your rescue, rejected Your laws, and resisted Your correction. But in Your great mercy, You pursue us still. We see You pursuing us today, to this very word. We acknowledge our sins, and we turn FROM our sins TO You.
Would You remind us of our relationship with You? Would You embed that identity in our minds and hearts so deeply that it’s the truth we live out of and speak out of? We are a brand plucked out of the fire by the hand of a holy God! We are children of the One True God, the giver of peace, the author of rescue, and the person of Love Himself.
And because that’s who You are, we joyfully surrender our lives to You—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Jesus,
We praise You for Your perfection and Your purity. Thank You for Your willingness to be the sacrifice that purifies us from our sins. You are the Son of God, fully God and fully man, the divine overlapping of prophet, priest, and king. No one in all of history holds Your place and no one ever will. You have always been what You are now, and You always will be. Before Isaiah prophesied Your birth, You existed. You created this world and You watched it fall, then You came to be our rescue, our burning coal of purification.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. Like the woes we read about, we’ve been greedy and arrogant. We’re given to drunkenness and we don’t treat the poor with dignity and love. We confess this sin to You and ask You to do the work in our hearts to change us from the inside out.
Would You humble us like You did with Isaiah? Give us a right view of You, ourselves, and others. Grant us a willingness to go where You send us.
Because You are our Lord, we surrender our lives to You—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Father,
We praise You for the fact that You are our HOME. We’re not in the wilderness anymore. And we thank You for the fact that WE are YOUR home—that You’ve chosen to come dwell in us by Your Spirit. And by the work of Your Son Jesus, You’ve done what You promised in Isaiah 1:18 You said, “Though your sins be like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” And You did that for us. Thank You!
We’re overloaded with sins, God, even in our so-called good deeds. Like the people of Judah, we’ve insulted You with false offerings, we’ve made a show of our righteousness to gain approval from others and favor from You, and we repent. You know our hearts, God—make them clean.
Would You grant us repentance in the places where our hearts have wandered off? Convict us when we’re doing something to be seen or in the hopes of getting what we want from You. Lead us in the paths of righteousness for YOUR name’s sake, not our own. May You be our highest goal and our greatest joy!
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Tuesday Jul 07, 2020
Holy God,
You are righteous, efficient, thorough, and merciful—and we praise You for it! Thank You for having a perfect plan, for securing its success, and for letting us be a part of that plan!
Like King Azariah, we vacillate between humility and arrogance, if we’re ever humble at all. We take credit for our victories and forget to acknowledge You, and little by little, we become people who resist rebukes and warnings, and do our own thing. We hate to be corrected and we grow defensive when we’re confronted with our sins and shortcomings. And we repent. We confess this sin to You and ask You to do the work in our hearts to change us from the inside out.
Would You make us like Zechariah, the priest who instructed King Azariah in what it meant to fear You and walk with You? As long as Azariah sought You, You made his ways prosper. We want to continue to seek You first, God, and we want our ways to prosper as a result. We don’t want any kind of prospering apart from You, because it will be our downfall. Draw us near to Yourself in delight and awe, and help us to show others what that looks like, too—help us to instruct others in the fear of the LORD.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Monday Jul 06, 2020
Monday Jul 06, 2020
Father,
We praise You for the way You persistently chase down Your enemies to show them mercy, to adopt them into Your family, to give them a better hope than the vain idols we’re so often drawn to. In fact, Your goodness and mercy are so abundant that they frustrate us sometimes—like they did with Jonah—because we’re less kind and less merciful and less patient than You are.
We’ve wanted punishment for our enemies or even just those we perceive to be enemies. We’ve held tightly to our self-righteousness. We’ve wanted our own way, and we repent. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We turn from the selfish desires of the flesh and turn to You instead.
Help us to regard You and Your ways as highest and best—like the sailors and the Ninevites did. Increase our compassion. Steep us in humility, because none of those other things will take root and last if they aren’t planted in the soil of humility, so please help us to rightly view ourselves in light of who You are.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Father,
You have the power to help or to cast down. You are sovereign over every war and disagreement. We praise You for the fact that You have commanded and secured an eternal victory for Your Kingdom, and we thank You that, as Your kids, we eternally benefit from that! Jesus, we praise You for making that possible, and Spirit, we praise You for marking us as God’s kids, inheritors of the Kingdom
We easily forget that victory isn’t just FROM You, but it’s IN You, God. We look to You for rescue but not relationship. Like Amaziah, when we get victory, we get proud. We fix our eyes on ourselves, puff ourselves up. We don’t listen to rebukes. We’ve been arrogant and unteachable at times, and our disobedience has been costly. We repent. Have mercy on me, and make my heart clean.
Would You humble us to seek Your wisdom? Help us listen to wise counsel. Keep us from going on auto-pilot with our lives and our desires, and remind us to ask You for guidance today, God. Give us hearts to obey You and help us to find joy in every step.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Saturday Jul 04, 2020
Father,
We praise You for the fact that Your goodness and Your power aren’t contingent on our faith. You are good and powerful apart from us, and You do miracles and wonders despite us! And on top of Your power and Your goodness, You’re also merciful—You show us immense mercy when we sin. So we ask for that now, God …
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We have sought You for relief instead of nearness. We’ve chased down Your blessings more than Your Person. We’ve neglected Your ways and ignored Your warning, and we repent.
Would You once again draw near to direct our steps? Put wise people in our lives to give us godly counsel—like Zechariah and Jehoiada the priest did for King Joash. Give us ears to listen. We don’t want to be foolish.
We want to surrender our lives to You, Lord. Help us. Every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.
