Day 115
Friday Apr 24, 2020
Friday Apr 24, 2020
Father,
We praise You for being a God with a willing ear and a soft heart. It’s such a great comfort that we don’t have to know the answer to our prayers before we pray them—we can leave that in Your trustworthy hands. We can bring all our needs and desires to You, and You can be trusted to sift through them, answer “no” to the ones that aren’t a part of Your generous plan, and answer “yes” to the ones that are. And thank You that there’s no such thing as an unanswered prayer for any of Your children. You always hear us and always respond.
Like Simeon, we’ve cherished our fierce anger, we’ve been wrathful and cruel. Like Reuben, we’ve been sexually immoral. We deserve nothing but punishment for our sins, but You offer mercy and grace. You give us the Son and the Spirit. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Would You keep us from sin and keep us from harm? Would You bless us like only You can do? And even as we ask that, we know that we’re asking for more of YOU, because know that You are the greatest blessing of all. YOU’RE where the joy is!
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Day 114

Thursday Apr 23, 2020
Father,
We praise You for being a God who adopts people of EVERY nation into Your family. We celebrate Your heart for outsiders like all of us who are Gentiles. You are our salvation and our God!
But we haven’t lived or believed that truth—we’ve been prideful, we claimed the glory for ourselves and our gifting and our hard work—stealing what is rightfully Yours. And because we’ve relied on our own strength, we’ve grown fearful when our strength begins to fail or when troubles come our way. We’ve invested all our hope in ourselves and our plans, and as a result, despair is around every corner, because we are not in control. We repent of our self-idolatry and of all the sinful fallout that comes from it—arrogance and greed and fear and manipulation.
Would You give us eyes to see Your glory? Would You fill our mouths with praise for You? Would You remind our souls to put their hope in You? Blessed are those whose strength is in You—they go from strength to strength. And YOU are our strength.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Day 113
Wednesday Apr 22, 2020
Wednesday Apr 22, 2020
Father,
We praise You for using every story to point to Your greater story. In Your goodness and sovereignty, You use the warrior, the wallflower, and the wicked to accomplish Your plans. We’ve probably all been in each of those categories at one point or another, and we thank You for the way You use us, despite our weakness and sinfulness. You equip us with all we need to do what You’ve called us to, and You sent Your Son to pay for all we’ve done wrong, our total lack of perfection. Thank You, Jesus, for covering our sin debt.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. Like Achan, we have been “troublers” of Your people. We’ve taken things that don’t belong to us and lied about it. We’ve impacted others through our selfishness and greed and covetousness.
Would You give us eyes to see the bigger story You’re telling. Remind us that it’s not about us, that it’s not about becoming great warriors or having our names recorded in history—that it’s about pointing to you. The men we read about today barely got a sentence in history—if that—but every line in the book we’re reading points to You. You are the point. May Your Spirit prompt us to remember that when we are self-centered and forgetful.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Father,
You are better than EVERYTHING. Everything we could ever desire or dream of, YOU ARE BETTER. Your nearness brings us so much joy. THANK YOU for that. It’s unbelievable that we get to know You. We praise You for Your generous plan to adopt sinners into Your family.
We repent of acting like You don’t notice our pain or hear our prayers. We repent of letting our troubles speak louder than the truth. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Would You teach us the proper way to mourn and grieve? There’s a time for lament and sadness—Jesus Himself experienced this many times—but show us how to grieve in a way that honors You instead of disbelieving Your character. Remind us that You enter into our pain, You draw near to the brokenhearted, and You grieve with us!
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Monday Apr 20, 2020
Monday Apr 20, 2020
Father,
We praise You for Your gentleness, for being the king of King we can draw near to. We praise You for Your patience toward a world full of sinners—and us, specifically, Your kids.
Like David’s messenger, we have rejoiced at the death of our enemies, instead of mourning. We have longed for justice for everyone but ourselves. We’ve escalated problems instead of solving them through peacemaking and humility. In our arrogance, we’ve lost sight of Your heart for mercy and restoration. Make our hearts clean, God.
Would You humble us? Remind us that whether our enemies live or die, You can be trusted. You are where our hope lies—not in temporary victories or advancements. Help us zoom out to see the bigger picture of eternity, to pray for the repentance and salvation of our enemies, not their annihilation. And when death is what You have in store, help us to mirror Your heart by mourning the death of the wicked, since we know You don’t take pleasure in it. Give us hearts that look like Yours and the value the things You value.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Sunday Apr 19, 2020
Sunday Apr 19, 2020
Father,
We praise You for being a God who inspires delight and awe in the hearts of those who know and love You. We are in awe of Your heart for forgiveness. Jesus, we praise You for paying the full cost for our sins on the cross. Because of You, we can draw near to our Father without fear of punishment or shame. You are our confidence! You are our defender!
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We repent of taking Your promises to specific people at specific times and trying to apply them to our situation, as though You owe us anything. We repent looking for the gifts and not the Giver. We repent of trying to use You to get what we want. We repent of judging others based on their circumstances and of misunderstanding Your heart and Your ways.
Grant us a fuller understanding of who You are. Equip us with truth as we study Your Word. Give us hearts that desire intimacy with you over anything else. May it be the song we sing as we march through the areas where our oppressors live, knowing You are ultimately victorious in everything You set out to do! You are our confidence!
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Day 109
Saturday Apr 18, 2020
Saturday Apr 18, 2020
Father,
We praise You for Your righteousness and for giving US the gift of Your righteousness. We have none of our own. We fully rely on You and You fully supply all we need to meet Your standard of perfection. Though we are imperfect and flawed and sinful, the righteousness and perfection of Your Son, Jesus, has been granted to us. We praise You for making our way straight and for being our strength for the journey.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We repent of our delayed obedience. We repent of using our pain as an excuse to sin. We repent of ever seeking answers or guidance from sources that oppose You—like mediums and psychics, or even things that may seem innocuous to us, like astrology and tarot cards. We desperately want to feel in control of our lives, God, and it’s an affront to You and Your sovereignty. We repent and we surrender. You alone know the future and You alone will bring it to pass in our lives. We can’t ruin or derail Your plans.
Would You grant us faith to trust You in what is still unknown and unrevealed to us? Strengthen us in the truth of who You are. Remind us to cling to that when we face enemies upon enemies upon enemies. Give us hope when our circumstances call for fear and paranoia—simply because our hope is in YOU, our hope is the ETERNAL kind. THANK YOU for being the well that never runs dry.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Friday Apr 17, 2020
Friday Apr 17, 2020
Father,
We praise You for always keeping Your promises, for being a trustworthy God, and for always working out justice in the long run. It often doesn’t happen on our timing, but we trust that Your timing is always better than ours, and we praise You for that too! Your presence comforts us—it’s the only place where true fulfillment exists, and we thank You for the comfort of Your nearness.
We don’t always seek You though, God. We look to other things for comfort and security and justice. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Would You give us the same longing for You that You gave to David? Help us desire time with You like it’s our very food and water. Carve out time for Yourself in our schedules. Give us the wisdom to be in Your Word daily and give us the discernment to know how to make that happen when every distraction seems to oppose us.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Day 107
Thursday Apr 16, 2020
Thursday Apr 16, 2020
God of all wisdom,
We praise You for being the source of wisdom and discernment, for being all-wise and all-knowing. We have no wisdom apart from You! We praise You for the way You use Your wisdom as a means of creating peace and order out of chaos. You enter in—with all the information that we have and all the information we lack—and You make a way we never would’ve imagined.
But we don’t rely on You and Your wisdom. We’re hasty and try to make our own way. We’re offended by presumed disrespect and by being denied what we want. We’re impatient and entitled, and we repent. We have failed to trust You in our trials, and we repent. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Would You give us the wisdom You gave Abigail? Would You teach us how to be peaceMAKERS and not just peaceKEEPERS? Help us enter into the chaos and create peace, like she did with David and like You did with us. Today, may we take the peace You’ve extended to us and extend it to others. Give us opportunities to demonstrate Your love and peace and hope to the chaotic world around us.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Father,
We praise You for being attentive to our hearts and emotions, for caring about us when we ache and mourn and are afraid. When You found us, we were empty-handed people, but instead of turning us away, You filled our hands! You are our only hope and You are more than enough! Jesus, we praise You for being our covering. Because of You, we can pour out our hearts and our troubles to the Father.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We repent of withdrawing when You feel distant. We repent of giving up at the first sign of despair or distraction. We have access to Your Spirit to empower our obedience, and we disregard it for easier paths. Would you help us obey You? We want to obey You!
Would You thwart the plan of the wicked? Would you protect us from our enemies, seen and unseen? Listen and act quickly on our behalf, God. Surround us with other members of Your family who can remind us of who You are and be a beautiful community to us in our times of need AND in our times of rejoicing.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.
