Monday May 04, 2020
Monday May 04, 2020
Father,
We praise You for making us lie down in green pastures and beside still waters. We praise You for restoring our soul and comforting us when we need it most. You don’t turn away from us in our sin—You actually pursue us in our sin, bringing us closer when our hearts have wandered off in foolish rebellion.
Our default is movement and hurry, yet You invite us to something different. And when we do move, it’s often toward rebellion, like the wicked man in Psalm 1. Have mercy on me, God—I’m a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Would You slow down our soul by slowing down our days? Would You supernaturally carve out time for Yourself in our schedule? Refresh us with Your Word and Your Spirit. Train us to be righteous in the way we think, act, and engage with the world around us. Train us to delight in You and Your ways! Cause us to flourish in the ways that matter!
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Father,
We praise You for bringing us into the light. Those who worship pagan gods are left wondering how to please them but You have never kept us in the dark when it comes to letting us know what pleases You and You have fulfilled all of that in the death of Your Son Jesus. Thank you for revealing Yourself and Your will to us!
Despite how clear and good You’ve been, carelessness marks our lives. We don’t follow Your command and we don’t love others well. Like David, we’ve taken our cues from Philistines, from people who don’t know or love You. We’ve been actively reckless and passively wicked. Then we’ve called You harsh for the ways You’ve handled our sin and rebellion. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Would You increase our compassion, our care, and our attention to detail? There is freedom in following You instead of our own impulses. Draw us to You out of love, not out of fear of punishment—because we know that Jesus took the punishment for our sins on the cross. Give us hearts to delight in knowing Your ways and walking in them.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we actively yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way. Be glorified in us today.
We love You too. Amen.

Day 123
Saturday May 02, 2020
Saturday May 02, 2020
Father,
We praise You for the constant reminder that we are loved by You, the God of the universe. Your love is perfect and complete, and it covers us and comforts us.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. Forgive us for our pattern of unfaithfulness to You. We confess that we’ve been the lost person, the rebellious prisoner, and the sinful fool. Despite the evidence of Christ’s death as a sign of Your love for us, we forget, and we doubt, and we wander into rebellion. Yet You have sought us out to bless us, and we repent. We turn from our sins and we turn to You. Make our hearts clean, God.
Would You remind us of Your pattern of faithfulness even when we are faithless… of Your consistency even when we are inconsistent? May Your Spirit prompt us with reminders of Your love for us today. May we forget the shame of our shipwrecks and rest in Your love that rescued us from ourselves.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Day 122

Father,
We have so much to praise You for—the eternal, the temporary—You bless us in so many ways! We praise You for the eternal life You’ve given us, for the blessing of Your Spirit who helps us dwell in unity with each other, and for providing us with everything we need for a life of godliness.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We lose sight of the true blessings, we’re greedy and arrogant, we hoard and manipulate and try to fight for our own way instead of trusting You for provision. We repent of these sings and we turn to You instead.
Would You keep our eyes on You instead of the temporary things we long for? Teach us to long for better things. We never want to lose sight of You and Your Kingdom by letting our vision become clouded with the fleeting. Help us to turn away from fighting and strife toward unity peace.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Day 121

Thursday Apr 30, 2020
Father,
From You, through You, and to You are all things! We praise You for the fact that any greatness we demonstrate doesn’t originate with us and it doesn’t terminate on us. You alone are the source, the supply, and the goal.
Have mercy on me. I am a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We repent of not seeking Your guidance. It seems easier in the moment to follow our flesh or make the decision ourselves, but it’s foolish and wicked to fail to seek direction from the one true source of all wisdom!
Would You give us with the wisdom and singular mind to follow after You? Give us discernment to hear You clearly, and give us strength to obey You. Like You did in David’s 15 year wait, would you grant us the patience to endure whatever our wait looks like in Your sovereign and perfect plan?
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Wednesday Apr 29, 2020
Father,
We praise You for being the creator of all things. It’s so comforting to know that there is not a single rogue molecule in creation, nothing that doesn’t ultimately yield to You and Your plan. If anything else were made by anyone else, Your plan could fail. But nothing escapes You—including our prayers and our needs! Thank You for being attentive to us. We praise You for being merciful, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, for the fact that You don’t repay us according to what we deserve, for being compassionate toward us.
Have mercy on me. I am a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We can’t do it. Only You can.
When we feel alone, would You help us rehearse the truth we’ve learned from Your Word? When we’re breaking under stress and sadness and can’t make sense of the world, would Your prompt us to preach the Gospel to ourselves like so many of the Psalmists demonstrated to us, Lord?
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Day 119
Tuesday Apr 28, 2020
Tuesday Apr 28, 2020
Father,
We praise You for protecting the eternal souls of Your people. Nothing and no one can snatch us out of Your hand. You keep us now and always. We praise You for showing care and attention to Your relationship with us—even down to the details of running the Temple. You have always been a God of detail and order, and we thank You for not leaving us to make sense of chaos on our own.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. Like Saul, we’ve been traitors and idolators and adulterers in our relationship with You. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Where we balk at Your sovereignty, grow our wisdom and humility to accept it with joy and delight. Show us the comfort in having a wise, powerful, loving God—whom we call Father—as the reigning king of the Universe now and forever. What a relief!
We lay down our own plans. We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Day 118
Monday Apr 27, 2020
Monday Apr 27, 2020
Father,
You reign over everything. You are robed in majesty. Your throne has always existed. Your words are trustworthy. Your ways are holy. Your heart is kind. We can bring our frustrations to You without it being a threat to You. You know all our thoughts and feelings anyway—even better than WE know them ourselves! We praise You for that! It is SO COMFORTING to be known fully and yet loved fully.
We repent of any times we’ve been afraid to come to You, of ever mistrusting Your heart toward us. We repent of disbelieving Your love for us, even though You’ve demonstrated it fully on the cross and repeatedly in Your Word and in our lives. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Would You give us ears to hear and listen? Help us to flourish in righteousness and wisdom. We have no one else to ask for that besides You, God. So we ask, knowing that in James chapter 1, You’ve promised to say “yes” to every prayer for wisdom. Expand our minds and hearts to hold more wisdom than before. May we be ever-increasing in wisdom and righteousness as long as we’re alive.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Day 117
Sunday Apr 26, 2020
Sunday Apr 26, 2020
Father,
We praise You for Your heart for restoration and redemption. You’re not distant or removed from us, You’re not waiting to punish us, You’re actively engaged in the plan You created to restore and redeem us! Jesus, we praise You for being the One who walked out that plan for redemption—all the way to the grave. We praise You that the story doesn’t end there—You rose from the dead and send Your Spirit to dwell in us as a sign of our adoption! You made us AND bought us back.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We have failed at every promise we’ve ever made You, God. We are not the promise maker in this relationship. You are. We are not the faithful ones. You are. We repent of our sin and idolatry. We repent of our sins and turn to You. Make our hearts clean. No one else can.
Would You help us see Your mercy and grace to us today? It wasn’t a one time event. It happens CONSTANTLY. Give us eyes to see our failures and sins, but don’t let our vision stop short of seeing the beauty of YOU showing up in our failures and sin to redeem us despite all that, to pour out kindness on us, to never leave us. May we be in AWE of how well You love us, despite ourselves.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Day 116
Saturday Apr 25, 2020
Saturday Apr 25, 2020
Father,
We praise You for Your faithfulness to Your people through all generations. We praise You for being the light to our darkness, for being a safe place to take our fears and doubts and questions. Thank You for hearing us and loving us and for giving us a family of Your people to pray for us and point our hearts back to the truth when our circumstances and emotions are lying to us about who You are. Jesus, we praise You for Your finished work on the cross. Spirit, we praise You for being the One who reminds us of what Jesus has done on our behalf. You are the evidence and guarantee of our adoption into the family of God!
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We repent of taking our eyes off of You and putting them on our idols. We repent of looking at others and comparing our lives to theirs. We repent of nurturing our bitterness and discontent.
Would You change our hearts, like You did with Asaph? Remind us of what matters. Give us greater delight in Your nearness. Fill our mouths with praise instead of complaints. Where our view of You is off, set our hearts right.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.
