Day 135

Father, 

We praise You for Your sovereign nature. Nothing beats sovereignty. Thank You for continuing to work out Your plan on earth and in our lives, despite our sin. It sets our hearts at rest to know that no sin we commit and no sin committed against us can derail Your plan.

Where we do sin, we repent and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We confess that we can’t keep our promises to You. Like David, we break any promise we make to You. We’re faithless, yet You remain faithful. Have mercy on me, a sinner.

Would You remind us today that no plans the enemy forms against You will stand? Just when things look darkest and light seems absent, we need Your reminder that You’ve already won the victory against darkness and death. Their defeat is certain, and the victory is won, praise Christ!

We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, every battle we face, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way. 

We love You too. Amen.

Day 134

Father, 

Thank You for offering Your guidance to us, for not leaving us to figure it out on our own. We are so grateful that You’re always willing to instruct us, teach us, counsel us, and watch over us. 

We naturally want to go our own way and do our own thing. As much as we know we need it, we don’t like having to submit to someone else as our Lord and Master. We’re sinners by nature, born into the fall, and we’ve been foolish and stubborn in our response to You. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.

Would You steer our minds to pay attention to You? Would You loosen our grip when we’re trying to control things? Help us yield to Your leading. Help us trust that Your heart is good and that Your ideas are better than ours.

We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every plan we make, every desire we grasp for… moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way. 

We love You too. Amen.

Day 133

Father, 

We praise You for Your heart toward Your kids. Like You did with David, You are so generous to us⁠—You lavish gifts on Your kids. You have already blessed us with more than enough and You are still willing to give more! Because of our sins against You, we’ve deserve nothing but hell and death, but instead, You’ve put away our sin⁠—Jesus paid for it on the cross. Thank You, Jesus, for Your sacrifice, Your perfect payment on our imperfect behalf.

We confess that we’ve been greedy and forgetful of You and Your character, God. We’ve taken things that don’t belong to us, committed murder and adultery⁠—even if only in our hearts. We’ve hated and we’ve lusted, and like David, we’re all capable of far worse sins than we realize. Yet no sin Your kids commit is beyond Your grace and mercy. So have mercy on me, God. I’m a sinner and I’m Your kid. We repent of our sinful thoughts and actions, and we ask You to make our hearts clean.

Help us to trust Your goodness and not grab and manipulate to get the things we want. Reorient our hearts to worship You instead of our own desires. Remind us that our repentance is marked by worship!

Day 132

Father, 

We praise You for choosing us and drawing us near to You! We’re so grateful for Your complete rescue! Our iniquities prevailed against us, but Jesus, You atoned for our transgressions, and we praise You for that! 

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. Would You help us to repent, to be willing to turn away from our sin and toward You in everything? We can’t even repent without Your help. Scripture says it’s Your kindness that leads us to repentance so show us Your kindness. Lead us to repentance.

Would You give us an abundance mindset like the author of Psalm 67? You have enough goodness to go around. When we’re tempted to forget, remind us that You abound in goodness, and that You’re attentive to all things! For the specific needs we’re aware of today, we ask You to show up in the ways only You can and provide for us. Your provision may look different than what we expect, but give us hearts to trust You. 

We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every need we have, every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.

Day 131

Father, 

We praise You for sending us the help of YOU. You are our one true sanctuary and our only hope. Thank You for meeting us in our need, which we know is every hour of every day. 

As we’ve tried to be our own sources of hope and stability, we’ve been suspicious of people who have tried to show us kindness. We’ve foolishly acted like Hanun’s advisors by relying on our own strength and direction. We confess and repent of our arrogance. We turn from our sins and turn to You and ask You to make our hearts clean.

Give us hearts that desire the right things, give us hearts that lean into You for directions and plan. Then, like David, we can rightfully pray these words: Would You grant us our heart’s desire and fulfill all our plans! May we shout for joy over Your salvation, and in Your name set up our banners! May You fulfill all our petitions! Now we know that You save Your anointed; You will answer us from Your holy heaven with the saving might of Your right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. 

We surrender our lives to You, Lord our God—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.

Day 130

 

Father, 

We praise You for being a God who is so easy to marvel at! You love to be remembered and when we take time to truly think about You and remember You, our hearts are filled with gratitude and thanksgiving! 

But instead, we’ve often spiraled into fear and anger. We’ve known the truth and rejected it. We’ve deemed You unloving because of Your wrath toward sin⁠. Our hearts are bent, God, and we need Your rescue. We repent of those sins and turn to You, God. Would You make our hearts clean?

Would You give us eyes to see that we are Your beloved, despite our affliction? Remind us that our temporary trials don’t mean You’ve turned away from us or forgotten us. You are above our circumstances and Your love surpasses all frustration and tragedy. In the pain and chaos or our own uncertainty, help us to slow down enough to acknowledge Your goodness, Your active love, and Your absolute certainty in all things.

Father, 

We praise You for the gift of Your Son. We know You treat us with grace and mercy because of Jesus. Thank You for Your invitation to live in Your Kingdom and eat at Your table forever. 

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. Forgive us when we forget who is the hero of our story. You alone bring the victory!

Would You grant us hearts of humility and generosity like You did for David when he found out about Mephibosheth? We want to be obedient to You, Lord, even when no one else notices or praises us for it. Make us people of integrity that glorify You in all our actions. Help us to follow Your guidance and promptings as You conform us to the image of Your Son.

Day 128

Father, 

We praise You for Your trustworthiness and Your sheer delightfulness! Thank You for Your friendship, for sharing Your secrets with us. We praise You for the fact that Your goodness and uprightness draws You TO sinners⁠—because we are sinners, and we’d be lost without You! And even though we’re sinners, we praise You that our identity isn’t defined by that. We’re sinners who have been rescued by and marked by the righteousness of Christ! Because His righteousness covers us and His payment for our sins was so complete, we’re free to confess our sins to You without fear of punishment! Thank You for loving us too much to let us continue in sin, for bringing it to our attention by the power of Your Spirit so that we can repent of it.

And we do repent, God. We’ve thought of ourselves too highly, we’ve lied, we’ve planned to sin… we’ve been wicked in so many ways, and yet You have graciously drawn us into repentance over and over again. Once again, we repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.

Would You impress upon us the power of our words today? What we say matters, and who we say it to matters, and we want to take our grumblings and our complaints to You, the only One in charge, the only One who can do anything about it anyway!

Day 127

 

Father, 

Why are You so nice to us? Thank You for not giving us everything we want. You have better ideas. And even if You never give us anything but Your presence, Your nearness itself is a blessing to us, like it was to the house of Obed-edom. We praise You for Your kind heart toward us—even Your “no” can be trusted as best, even Your “no” is a kindness.

We repent of any resentment we’ve accumulated against You for when you answered our prayers with “no”. We repent of bitterness we feel toward others who get a “yes” from You. We don’t want to be like Michal, judging from our towers and seething at a distance. We turn from our sins and our selfish anger and we turn to You. Make our hearts clean.

Would You give us a lens for Your kindness? GIve us eyes to see everything through the lens of Your blessing and goodness to Your kids. Give us faith to trust You know best when You tell us “no” or “wait”. And give us hearts that desire the kinds of things You delight to say “yes” to!

Day 126

Father, 

We praise You for Your intelligence⁠—You are so smart! You hold every detail in Your hand, and You take all things into account. You don’t lose track of anything and none of Your plans fail! 

We are not like You so have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We repent of our rebellion and turn our eyes to You, the only source of infinite value and eternal goodness. 

Even though we bristle at it, we ask You to correct us when we sin, just like any good father would do. Would You help us to focus on the blessing You bring, rather than the suffering we endure? Romans 5 reminds us of all the good You produce from suffering: endurance, character, hope⁠—and on top of that, we get to see the Holy Spirit at work in us!

We surrender our lives to You, brilliant Lord, King of every atom in the Universe—we surrender every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
