Father,
We praise You for releasing us from the bondage of sin, taking us out of slavery and giving us rest instead. Thank You for calling us Your people! Thank You for coming to live among us.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Holy Spirit, would You help us to never take for granted the fact that You dwell in us? Our relationship with You isn’t confined to one location! We can go to our churches to worship You alongside all the people You’ve established to serve You there and all the other kids You’ve adopted into Your family, but when we leave and go out into the world, we carry You with us everywhere! We take Your light into the dark world, not only because this dark world needs Your light, but because we who live in this dark world and we need Your light in us. Shine ever brighter—in us and to us and through us.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Jesus,
We seek salvation from no one but You! We praise You for working on our behalf—as our Savior, our Priest, and our King. Thank You for saving us despite ourselves!
We confess we have set our hope on a million things besides You. Like David, we’ve wanted vengeance on our enemies, but unlike David, we haven’t always restrained ourselves from action. We repent of trying to invent our own justice. We repent of not trusting that You will work it out in ways that are eternally perfect and righteous. We turn from our sinful thoughts and words and actions, and we turn to You instead. Have mercy on me and make my heart clean.
Would You redirect our hearts to focus on You, so that everything else grows dim? May our enemies not be our focus. May our plan for revenge not be our focus. May all the wrongs and injustices done to us never define us, and may relief from them never be what we look to for joy. Our hope and our joy is found in You alone—and we have access to that right now.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every grudge we bear, every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.

Father,
We praise You for being a Redeeming God. You are victorious over sin and You use it for Your purposes and for our joy! Thank You that sin never gets the final word—that You’re always working in and through our sin to make it serve Your purposes. Your plan always prevails against the enemy!
Like David, we tend toward self-reliance. We try to initiate change or action without regard for Your commands and the wisdom of those around us. We repent of our autonomy. We repent of trying to find comfort in any kind of numbers. We repent of looking to power and protection for our hope. You alone are our hope, God. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Would You mold our hearts to match Your desires? We trust You to initiate, fulfill, and perfect the purposes You’ve established for our lives. You know better than we do.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.

Father,
We praise You for being the Sower of light and joy in our lives, even if we haven’t yet seen it bloom. We trust that You have sown goodness for Your kids. You are our Maker and our Shepherd—our Creator and our Keeper.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We confess we’ve let our hearts be hardened in the past, but would You enlighten us again to Your ways? We don’t want to miss out on the beautiful complexity of walking with You. You’re the one who brings us rest and restoration!
Help us show the world the joy we have in knowing You deeply. Today, may Your love be demonstrated to those who don’t yet know You. Because like the psalmist, we want all the ends of the earth to know the salvation of our God! You are where the joy is!

Father,
We praise You for Your gentleness. Your gentleness has made us great. You are the source of all good things!
But we’ve grown impatient with You, God. We’ve declared that Your gifts aren’t good enough. We’ve mistrusted Your heart and Your timing, and we’ve arrogantly demanded that You act instead of humbly requesting it. We’ve cried, “How long, O Lord?” but as an accusation against You. You are God and we are not, and we repent. Have mercy on me, a sinner. Our hearts aren’t steadfast like Yours, so we ask You to strengthen our hearts and make them clean.
Give us meekness—give us Your strength under control. Jesus, You are our model for humility and gentleness. You are our model for what it looks like to trust the Father’s plan and timing. And Spirit, You empower us to live out what Jesus modeled for us. Make us fruitful in the ways that matter eternally.

Father,
We praise You for being a Deliverer. Remind us of the many times You’ve delivered us and what You delivered us from. We praise You for Your abundant, steadfast love—in all our failures and sins and shortcomings, You never have left us and You never will.
Like David, we’ve sinned and been foolish. So many of our problems are the consequences of our own sins. We repent of those sins, we repent of the hopelessness we’ve attached to them, and we repent of not turning to Your for our deliverance. We try to seek our own ways out. We look to self-help and self-determination, and we end up digging deeper pits in the process. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Like David prayed, we pray: Be gracious to us and raise us up. Would You bring us relief, God? We are desperate for Your nearness and salvation. We have no one to ask for it but You.

Father,
We praise You for taking sin seriously and caring about justice. Thank You for not forgetting, and for handling things we can’t and with a perfect justice that we’d never be able to achieve in our imperfection.
We repent of the times we’ve pursued vengeance instead of pursuing You. We confess that we’ve prioritized hating our enemies over loving You and loving our enemies like You have called us to. Like Joab, we haven’t trusted You to protect or provide for us, and we repent. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean.
Would You work in our hearts to restore the relationships with the people we’ve wronged? Start with us. Change us from the inside out by the work of Your Spirit in us. Conform us to the image of Your Son Jesus who loved His enemies so well.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every grudge we bear, every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.

Father,
We praise You for being the Giver! We thank You for the sacrificial death of Christ, for giving us new ears and a new heart and an ever-increasing delight in You.
We confess that we have nothing to offer You. We have nothing to add to Your grace and glory. We are poor and needy, yet You are rich and generous. So in Your great generosity and love, would You pour out mercy on us today? We repent of our sins and turn to You and ask You to make our hearts clean.
When it’s hard to discern who or what to trust in or rely on, we know that You are the constant, never-changing trustworthy King. You are our solid ground. Help us to be men and women of integrity, who image You to a world of lies and betrayal. May we be set apart in the way we live and speak and think, and may all the glory for that distinction go to You alone, God.

Father,
We praise You for being active in the subtle nuances and specific timing! You are working in all things—seen and unseen, heard and unheard—to bring about Your good plan. You are even big enough that You work through the plans of Your enemies! No one else could do that—only You!
But we confess that in our foolishness and limited understanding, we don’t always trust You with the timing and the nuances. We fear our enemies more than we trust You. So set our hearts right, God. Have mercy on me; I’m a sinner. We repent—we turn from our sinful thoughts and fears and actions, we turn from our limited vision, and we turn to You instead. Make our hearts clean.
Show us Your faithfulness in Your Word and in our lives. Point out Your goodness to us so we can let that inform our understanding. Remind us of the folly and pain that come from trying to get our own way instead of trusting Yours, like Absalom and Ahithophel. Even when those we loved and held dear have betrayed us, YOU are trustworthy. YOU are our defender.

Father,
We praise You for being our Good Shepherd and carrying us forever. Thank You for protecting us from our external enemies, and protecting us from ourselves too.
We are the kinds of people You distance Yourself from—we are the proud, the liars, the greedy. BUT YOU planned a way to draw near to us despite all that. You sent Jesus to pay for our sins, and You sent Your Spirit to dwell in us and to shape our hearts to look more like Yours! So please keep doing that. Make our hearts clean! We love to see Your work in our hearts, changing us! Where we’ve let our feelings inform our hearts more than Your Truth, change our hearts! We repent of our sins, God. We look to You for rescue yet again.
Would You focus our vision, our passion, and our attention on You alone? You don’t lose sight of your sheep—help us never to lose sight of our Shepherd!
