Day 155

Father, 

We praise You for adopting us into Your family. Jesus, thank You for dying on the cross for our sins. Holy Spirit, thank You for continually working in us even when we do things that are despicable to You. 

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean as we turn to You. We confess that often we are guilty of the things You say you hate: “haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.” We have done those things God. We confess our sin and we repent. 

Would You teach us to love and embody humility, honesty, innocence and justice, purity, righteousness, truth, peacemaking and unity instead? Make our hearts look more like Your heart, God. Your heart is so beautiful.

We surrender our lives to You—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way. 

We love You too. Amen.

Day 154

Father, 

We praise You for being the source of wisdom itself. Wisdom and insight and understanding come from Your hand! Thank Your for being our guide and from being the place we can go to escape from the tyranny of self. You know better than we do. Thank You for being a trustworthy place for all our cares and worries⁠—the only one who can provide true comfort, bring healing, and enact change. You are the source of all good things! 

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We repent of trusting in our own hearts over and over. We repent of leaning on our own understanding. We confess that we’ve not WANTED to ask You what to do because we view You as a cruel God who wants to rob us of joy. We’ve been wise in our own eyes, and we repent. 

Would You help us to entrust our hearts to You, lean on Your understanding, acknowledging You in all our ways? We need Your help to want better things. We need Your help to trust You more. We are fully dependent on You, God. Would You make our paths straight?

We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way and our hearts and our thoughts to Your perfect will and way. 

We love You too. Amen

Day 153

Father, 

We praise You for being love itself. We praise You for inventing marriage and sex. You designed them for intimacy and made them beautiful, and they serve as reminders of Your goodness!

But we haven’t viewed them rightly, God, and we repent. We’re all guilty of viewing sex and romantic love either too highly or too lowly. Where we’ve esteemed them too highly and made them the goal and focus of our lives, we repent. Where we’ve viewed them too lowly, we’ve embraced sexual immorality, and we repent of disregarding Your good plan. Whether we’ve believed the lie that sex is dirty or unholy or awakened love before it’s time or looked to sex and human love as the fulfillment of our deepest needs, we repent. And we confess that YOU are our deepest need and our greatest fulfillment.  Have mercy on me, I’m a sinner. We turn FROM our sins TO You and ask You to make our hearts clean. 

We need You to redefine sex for us. To redefine sexuality, love, and relationships for us. You invented it, we twisted it, and we need you to set us straight. Would You rid us of unbiblical or confusing beliefs around intimacy and replace them with Your beautiful truth?

We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every thought and action, every moment of our day, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.

Father, 

We praise You for Your generous heart. You seek out opportunities to bless us even when we don’t ask for it and even though we never deserve it! You are so kind! 

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. Unlike Solomon, our requests haven’t always been filled with humility. We repent of ever wanting revenge more than we want peace and repentance. We repent of asking for things that we think are more valuable than wisdom while neglecting that request altogether.

Wisdom begins with viewing You rightly, so would You help us to do that? We don’t want to lose sight of our need for Your wisdom. And would You humble us by reminding us that all good things come from Your hand? 

Give us the wisdom we need to surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, give us wisdom to yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way. 

We love You too. Amen.

Day 151

Father, 

We praise You for the fact that nothing is better than Your nearness. No matter how little or how much we have, no matter how weak or powerful we are, You are always more than enough. And we thank You for giving to us so generously, for blessing us with all we need for life and godliness. 

But like Solomon, we turn to people and possessions to make us feel worthy and loved and strong, and we repent. We repent of ignoring Your commands and worshiping our idols and look to them for hope and comfort⁠—and we repent. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. 

Would You give us wisdom, God? We desperately need Your wisdom and not our own. In James 5:1, You promise to give wisdom to all who ask. So like Soloman, we humbly ask and we know you’ll give it to us when we ask. So we humbly ask and gratefully receive ALL the wisdom You have for us. And through Your wisdom, each us to handle both wealth and poverty in ways that honor You and point to You.

We surrender our lives to You, Lord and we need Your wisdom in every area of our life—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect and wise will and way. 

We love You too. Amen.

Day 150

Father, 

We praise You for Your Word ⁠— the lamp to our feet and the light to our path. Thank You for providing both kinds of light we need for walking with You. You’re a God of wide, general truth and a God of specific truth about where we put our feet for every step. 

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. Like the psalmist, we have gone astray. We repent of not paying attention to Your guidance, of rebelling against Your Word or even ignoring it altogether. We confess that we prefer our path to Yours, but we know Your path is the one that brings life! So help us, God! 

Pursue us all the more, draw us nearer, show Your light brighter, show us the beauty of Your path and Your plan! 

You are our Lord. We surrender our lives to You—every step we take, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect and well-lit will and way.

Day 149

Father, 

We praise You for our position in Your family. It isn’t and never has been about our works or our perfection. It has always been Your righteousness which You’ve granted to Your kids through the work of Your Son Jesus. Thank You for covering our sins⁠—past, present, and future.

By the power of Your Spirit in us, we repent of those sins and turn to You. Would You make our hearts clean? We want to turn from those sins. We want to be changed. Like David, we hold onto bitterness, we want to see others face justice. We arrogantly believe we’re the ones who need to carry out that justice, because, ultimately, we don’t believe YOU will carry it out. We doubt Your character, which clouds our vision and misdirects our actions. 

When we view You wrongly, would You grow our view of You? Set it right. When we view ourselves and our sin wrongly⁠—like it’s too weighty for Jesus to bear⁠—would You remind us that all the sins of all God’s kids are fully covered by the blood of Christ? We need to be reminded of the Gospel everyday⁠—our gaping need for You and Your sufficiency for all our needs. Where our desires are sinful or just less perfect than Your plans, would You put the right desires in us? Grant us the right desires, God.

We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, every desire we long for, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way. 

We love You too. Amen.

Day 148

 

Jesus,

We praise You for being the Gate. You alone are the way into the Kingdom. We praise You for being the Cornerstone⁠, the very foundation on which our faith is built. And we thank You for becoming our salvation, like the Psalmist says⁠—for stooping down from high above us to raise us up out of the dust and the ash heap and seating us at Your table. 

Father, we have sinned, and we appeal to Your mercy. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. Before You were at work in us, we confess that we found You worthless. But because of Your Spirit at work in us, we have new eyes to see, new ears to hear.

By the power of Your Spirit, give us the wisdom to see Your glory and goodness. Remind us that You are eternally worthy of our praise. Write Your worthiness on our hearts and seal us for Your name’s sake. Help us to delight in You, and teach us what it means to practice the fear of the LORD.

Day 147

Father, 

We praise You for being the Source of all things. We echo the words of David, “Both riches and honor come from You… and in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength… All things come from You, and of Your own have we given You.” 

Forgive us for being prideful and puffing ourselves up, forgetting that You are the Source, and instead elevating ourselves and “our” provision. And forgive us for the time we’ve withheld generosity out of fear and greed. We’ve been arrogant and selfish, and we repent. Have mercy on me, a sinner. Make our hearts clean like only You can.

Give us grateful hearts that acknowledge that every gift comes from You. Like David told Solomon, may we know You and serve You with a whole heart and a willing mind. Soften our hearts and minds to respond to You. 

We surrender our lives to You, Lord and our hearts and our minds—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.

Day 146

Father, 

You will fulfill Your purpose for us, and we praise You for that! Your purpose is better, Your plans are better, and Your process is better! We praise You for being righteous in all Your ways and we thank You for being so very kind to us in all Your works. 

Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. We confess our rebellion and thank You for not giving us what we deserve. You are so much better than fair⁠—You even extend Your common grace and common mercy to those who don’t know or love You! 

Give us eyes to see the kindness You’ve shown to us⁠ in ways big and small, in ways common and specific. We get to breathe Your air and enjoy Your creation, we get to taste delicious food, we have access to tools and technology that helps us understand Your Word that didn’t exist for any prior generations. You have done us SO MUCH GOOD.

We joyfully surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
