Day 124

Father, 

We praise You for bringing us into the light. Those who worship pagan gods are left wondering how to please them but You have never kept us in the dark when it comes to letting us know what pleases You and You have fulfilled all of that in the death of Your Son Jesus. Thank you for revealing Yourself and Your will to us!

Despite how clear and good You’ve been, carelessness marks our lives. We don’t follow Your command and we don’t love others well. Like David, we’ve taken our cues from Philistines, from people who don’t know or love You. We’ve been actively reckless and passively wicked. Then we’ve called You harsh for the ways You’ve handled our sin and rebellion. Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. 

Would You increase our compassion, our care, and our attention to detail? There is freedom in following You instead of our own impulses. Draw us to You out of love, not out of fear of punishment⁠—because we know that Jesus took the punishment for our sins on the cross. Give us hearts to delight in knowing Your ways and walking in them. 

We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we actively yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way. Be glorified in us today.

We love You too. Amen.
